Probably the game's single strongest point is that it circumvents the urge to hoard resources.

I've yet to fully get how they interact oil and poison being overlaid on each other seem to completely destroy both, along with any adjacent patches, while water and electricity combined completely stun anything on it for several turns instead of (or maybe in addition to?) debuffing it defensively and prohibiting basic attacks. There's also a pretty neat system of dynamic floor hazards that (mostly) don't deal direct damage, and affect enemies and player alike in turn, both the player and enemy abilities can lay down and remove hazards. It can be recharged by breaking multiple enemies' defenses in quick succession, up to 7 charges max, and automatically is set to 3 (if it's less than that) whenever you enter a new chamber with enemies. One of the most unique mechanics is the ability to "blink" around the room, within a three-space (by default) range. There's also a Slay the Spire-esque relic system. hit the same area based on their weapon type, each also has a unique affix (i.e., a rifle that deals double damage at max range, gauntlets that give you a temporary-HP barrier every time you attack) and one or more generic/weapon-type-based affixes (immunity to knockback, increased attack at the cost of defense, auto-reload on breaking an enemy).

Weapons operate in a Dead Cells-esque fashion while all swords, axes, etc. While the game borrows a decent number of mechanics from roguelites/roguelikelikes (see next paragraph), they're incorporated in a core gameplay loop that's completely Berlin-standard except for the lack of unidentified items, the progression system, and the fact that it isn't ASCII. Movement is turn-based and grid-based, HP only recovers via consumables and after bosses (or with certain weapons that have downsides to their usage), MP is limited per encounter.

There's a permanent upgrade system, which arguably compromises the game's "purity," but it's much more Rogue-like than a lot of things that slap the name on. Active abilities come in the form of consumables and skills you can have up to four of the latter, and they come in sets of two thematically based on minibosses. When you hit a target X times, it becomes stunned for several turns and takes more damage. Okay, so I'm about four hours into this game, and the best TL DR I can give for it is "Necrodancer, but trading in the rhythm aspects for Octopath Traveler's break system." Weapon choice probably has the biggest impact on your play style, with each type hitting a different area – rifles hit everything in a line but need occasional reloading swords hit a space next to you and the two adjacent corner spaces daggers hit a single spot twice.
